Word Wall
The Word Wall contains a growing list of vocabulary words that the students are expected to spell correctly in their writing.
Most of the words are common sight vocabulary. Some are subject specific and, therefore, not grade appropriate for spelling ... just for familiarity.

Visual Schedule
Every morning the students can see what is comming up for the day. Predictability can help reduce the stress of transition from one activity to another.
We do "calendar" every morning with a new student responsible for leading it every day. First nutrition break is at 11:00 am and second is at 1:20 pm. Students have 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes of recess.

SMART Board
The interactive whiteboard is used for whole class lessons and small group work such as in literacy centres.
Students are being taught how to set up and orient the SMART Board and catch on to its features quickly. Our school community has succeed in its goal of fundraising to provide a SmartBoard for every classroom. Thanks so much

Guided Reading table
This is where students meet with the teacher in small groups to read books that are appropriate to their reading level and to discuss strategies that can help them improve their reading skills.
While guided groups are meeting, the rest of the students are engaged in centre-based literacy activities which they rotate through over the course of the week. This is one reason why the development of independent work skills is so important to everyone in the class.

Anchor Charts
These charts are created as a unit progresses and remain posted so that students can refer to them for reminders of important ideas relating to the course of study.
Students are always encouraged to use the resources in the classroom to help them with their work. Knowing where to find information is important to building a positive attitude toward learning.

Learning Goals and Success Criteria
These charts help students to understand the purpose of a lesson and how they are expected to demonstrate their learning in assigned work.
Success criteria are specific things that the students must do to meet the provincial standards for curriculum expectations. By refering to them, students can self-check to guage their progress and set goals.
